About:24-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Gangzhou transit

My friend and I (both with a Belgian passport) have a 11H layover in Gangzhou, from 6am tot 5pm to Kuala Lumpur, if we take the transit hotel offer are we allowed to roam Gangzhou with our 24h entry permit?

Irma, you do not need any permit because Belgian citizens can enter China absolutely visa free for a period of up to 30 days. In reality, your travel to China is as if you were traveling to UK. You can take a transit hotel and you do not have to take a transit hotel. It will be your choice and that choice does not have any effects on your eligibility to exit the airport. So, when you land, you will just fill out your arrival card where you will tick the box - transit. After that you will perform fingerprinting. You will see some going to 24/240 hour visa free transit counter, but you should not because you do not need a permit. When you are done with that, just proceed to the immigration. After a short check where you will tell that you exit the airport to rest in the transit hotel and to do some sightseeing, you will leave the airport building and spend some time on your own until your departure toward Kuala Lumpur. Have a nice stay in Guangzhou.
