Chinese Tourist Visa Application from Malaysia

I am a Bangladeshi citizen currently studying in Malaysia on a student visa. I plan to visit China for 5days during my semester break purely for tourism. As I do not know anyone in China, I would like to confirm if it is possible to apply for a tourist visa without an invitation letter, and if that section in the application can be left blank. Additionally, is a confirmed air ticket required for the visa application, or would a flight booking enough?

Thank you for your assistance.

Yes, you can apply for a tourist visa without an invitation letter. Replaced requirements are:
Proof of legal stay or residence status (your student visa there)
Documents showing the itinerary including air ticket booking record (round trip) and proof of a hotel reservation, etc. or an invitation letter issued by a relevant entity or individual in China.
