Tony, there is one detail that makes your itinerary ineligible for 240 hour visa free transit, but it is possible to make certain changes in order to make it eligible. The fact is that you will fly from UK to Guangzhou via Hong Kong. This is fine, but you have to understand that you cannot return from mainland China directly to Hong Kong. The basic rule of 240 hour visa free transit requires that the immediate points before and after mainland China are in two different countries or eligible territories (eligible territories are Hong Kong, Taiwan and Macau). As you can see, in your itinerary your both immediate points are in Hong Kong. So, the solution is, not to return from Guangzhou to Hong Kong by a train to West Kowloon station, but to take a ferry from Shekou port (in Shenzhen) to Macau. Like this you will have your immediate points in two eligible territories. When you arrive by ferry to Macau, you will immediately take a ferry to Hong Kong and then you can proceed to UK. It is important that you buy your ferry ticket to Macau through TurboJet ferry website even before you depart from UK. Also, it is highly advisable to print out that ferry ticket and to have that printout with you at hand because you will be asked to present one in UK at the time of your check-in and also upon your landing in Guangzhou. I know that this option is somewhat less convenient than your original one, but the original one was not eligible and this less convenient is eligible for 240 hour visa free transit without any doubt. Have a nice journey.
