About:24-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Transit through China

Hi,
I have a Turkish passport and live in Australia. I will fly from Sydney to Istanbul with transit from Chengdu Tianfu International Airport. Will I be eligible to stop over and visit the country? I have 20 hours of waiting time.

Thank you!

Han, your itinerary is definitely eligible for 24 hour visa free transit and you do not need any kind of visa. It is important that your layover in China is shorter than 24 hours based on scheduled arrival and scheduled departure time. Since your layover is a long one, I can see that want to exit the airport. In that case you have to be aware of the following. Immediately upon your landing in Chengdu the first thing that you will do will be to approach 24/240 hour visa free transit counter where you will apply for a temporary entry permit by presenting your flight itinerary and your hotel booking accommodation if you plan to have a hotel stay. In any case, it is important to understand the fact that the issuing of the temporary entry permit is not a passenger's right, but a bonus that is offered based on discretionary decision to those with long layovers, disabled passengers and those with small children. In any case, you should try and hopefully it will be resolved in your favor, although you can expect both outcomes. In the case of the negative outcome, you will just wait for your next flight in the transit zone of Chengdu airport. I wish you a success and a pleasant journey.
