About:240-Hour Visa-Free Transit

2 Air Tickets

I am wondering if below situation is applicable for the free 240 hours visa policy...

1. I bouget an air ticket San Francisco > Hong Kong > San Francisco (20 days trip)
Thinking visiting China, Tiawan and Japan during my trip....
2. If I get an air ticket from HK > Guangzhou (4 days) > Taipe (3 days) > Toyko (3 days) > HK..

Would my 2nd ticket applicable for the 240 hrs. free visa entry to China?

Yes, your entire itinerary is absolutely visa free and your stay in Guangzhou will be covered by 240 hour visa free transit. All that you need to take care of is that at the time of your check-in for your flight from Hong Kong to Guangzhou, you already have your Guangzhou to Taiwan ticket already booked because the latter will be a proof that you will be really in a transit through mainland China. One more detail... Instead of flying from Hong Kong to Guangzhou, you can also think to take a ferry from Hong Kong to Nansha (located south from Guangzhou and connected to it by a metro) or to Shekou (a port in Shenzhen). Those two ports are eligible for entry into mainland China if done by a direct ferry from Hong Kong in the same way as it is the case with a flight. OK, it is something you will decide. Have a nice journey.
