About:China Visa

Chinese Tourist Visa in January 2026

Hi, I am from Melbourne (Australia) and planning to go to China in January 2026. I understand the visa free has lapsed on 31 December 2024. Do I go to Chinese Embassy in Melbourne (Australia) to apply for the visa or do I apply it online? Do I apply within 2 months of the departure date? Thanks. Regards, Jane

The 30-day visa free entry policy to Australians has been extended to the end of 2025. So if you go to China before 2026, you are free of visa. The embassy advises visitors to apply one month before travel. Applying online is not accepted.

I guess the visa exemption may be extended again later this year to promote exchanges and tourism.
