Do I need an invitation from a Chinese citizen to travel to China?

Dear all, I'm Dutch and would like to spend a period from July 10th till August 9th in China. Do I need an invitation from a Chinese citizen and do I need a visa?

Dutch people are granted 30-day visa free entry and if you arrive on July 10, then July 10 will be the first day and you should leave before 24:00 of August 8, the 30th day. No invitation letter is needed. But if you can provide one or your hotel reservations, it will make your immigration check at the border easier.
