Remote working in China

I work remotely for a non-Chinese company, as a software engineer. In my country of residence, I set up a local sole-proprietor business through which I receive payments, pay taxes, etc.

I am trying to understand how could I do this to live in China long-term. Is it possible at all? Looking at the visas, it rather looks like I need to be invited by a Chinese entity; but what entity could that be in my case?

I guess I could try doing this with tourist visas, even if that means re-entering the country every 90 days, etc... but, is it legal to be working remotely while in a tourist visa?

You can live in China long-term by work for a Chinese Company, OR set up your own company in China, to get a long-term work visa. I'm not sure if it's legal if you working with a tourist visa. However, if this is the first time you apply for a China tourist visa, it's not easy to obtain a multiple-entry one with long duration of stay.
