About:24-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Multiple stops with 24 hour TWOV

Hello,

I am planning to take the trip from Budapest-Ningbo-Guangzhou (with China Eastern Airlines) and then Guangzhou-Hanoi (with China Southern Airlines) and within 24 hours between landing in Ningbo and taking off in Guangzhou. Is this itinerary eligible for 24 hour TWOV?

How is the process when I land at Ningbo, there is only 1 hour and 30 minutes between landing and the next flight to Guangzhou so I am not sure if there is enough time for that (even this whole section is sold on China Eastern website).

Also, I saw conflicting statement online about multiple layovers at Guangzhou. "Transit including multiple stops within China is permitted at Guangzhou only when the first transit point is Beijing (PEK)." Do you know if this is true? If yes, then my itinerary is invalid then.

Thank you so much!

Marina, your itinerary is definitely eligible for 24 hour visa free transit and you should not worry about those, years old statements regarding the Guangzhou airport and similar.

It is, however, true and that worries me to a certain degree that your layover in Ningbo is just 1 hour and 30 minutes long. This is very, very tight and if I were you I would reconsider its choice. In case if you have already bought it, you will have to be very, very fast to accomplish the formalities.

So, when you land in Ningbo, you should literally run out of the plane and the first thing will be to reach 24/144 hour visa free transit counter where you will apply for a temporary entry permit in order to be allowed to cross the immigration because your next flight will be a domestic one. When you reach the counter you will present your flight tickets and after a short check, your permit will be granted. This application is free of any charge. You should kindly ask those waiting at the counter to give you place to perform your application the first because of a short layover time.

When your permit is granted you will head to the immigration and then to the gate for your flight to Guangzhou. When you land in Guangzhou you will collect your luggage and perform a check-in for your flight to Hanoi. When you do that, you will head to the immigration and to the gate for your flight to Hanoi.

Again, you have full right to do this, but you should be very fast! Have a nice and successful journey.
