Traveling while waiting for process period.

I will request an extension on my M-visa in China, for which I must wait 7 days to get the answer. In those 7 days, I would like to travel to another province in China (from Shanghai to Shandong) for business purposes. Would I still be able to make this journey by train, considering I have to submit my passport for the extension?
