About:240-Hour Visa-Free Transit in Guangdong

I have 8.30hrs transit in Guangzhou

I have 8.30 hour transit in Guangzhou and would like to go out to rest in a hotel but from previous replies it is obvious that the 24 hour visa free transit along the exit permit is given only if there is a stay of longer than 8 hours but i am unsure 8 hours are counted from the time you present your papers at the transit counter or they go by the arrival time and departure time on tickets?
Another option is to apply for 144 hour visa free stay in order to get out of the airport- Not sure how much if any, it cost to apply for this? I am an Australian citizen. Not sure if it will be worth to apply for this if this costs any money.
Or should i look into using the airport lounge? where do i find the links to airport lounges?

Since you have 8 hours and 30 minutes of layover, you cannot apply for 144 hour visa free transit because to be eligible for 144 hour visa free transit your layover has to be longer than 24 hours. By the way, 144 hour visa free transit does not imply any cost.

Everything you should do is to apply for a temporary entry permit immediately upon your landing at the transit counter. You will present your flight tickets and your accommodation booking confirmation and if you are there during the night hours, your chances to be granted a permit are really very good. However, you have to know that the issuing of the permit is definitely not the passenger's right, but a bonus that is offered to those with long layovers, families with small children, disabled passengers and similar. For links and short descriptions as far as the lounges are concerned, I recommend LoungeBuddy website. Please, just be focused because certain lounges are located airside and some landside. By the way, a temporary entry permit is also free of any charge and you should definitely apply for one.
