China short stay visa for French national, Hong-Kong in between

Hello, I am French, I would like to go to China for a duration longer than 15 days, but go to Hong Kong in the middle. Is this possible? Would I be denied boarding? I want to get the train ticket to Hong Kong in advance before I go to the airport, would that be valid ?
