About:24-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Beijing transit visa

Hello, I am a german citizen flying from Ho Chi Minh City to Munich with a 16 hour layover in Beijing. I wanted to exit the airport and visit the great wall in the meantime. Is this possible and if yes do I have to apply for a temporary entry permit? Do you have experience with this applucation process? Where and how can one do this?

Yes, it is possible. As German passport holders can visit China visa-free for at most 15 days, so you don't need to apply for a temporary entry permit.

Thanks for the fast reply. Has anybody made personal experience with that? One traveller from Germany we met has told us that in January 2024 he could not enter. He was on a 14 hour layover. Maybe he has gotten through the transit/transfer area as I have heard that there it can happen that you cant go back outside. So to be on the sure side I will probably just apply for the temporary permit anyways.
