Happy New Year to you too :)
Transit counter is open round the clock, so this is resolved.
Having in mind that your layover in Shanghai will be during the night, you will do the following:
- Print out your flight tickets and your hotel booking confirmation and have those printouts at hand.
- When flying to China, aboard the plane will be dispensed arrival/departure cards and you will fill out one and tick transfer as the purpose of visit.
- Upon landing, you will immediately approach transit counter where you will apply for a temporary entry permit by presenting your flight tickets and hotel booking confirmation. This application is free of charge.
- When a permit is granted, you will cross the immigration and head to your hotel for a decent night rest.
- At an appropriate time, you will return to the airport to take your flight to your final destination.
Please, have in mind that your layover in Shanghai cannot exceed 24 hours and that you will be transiting through China covered by 24 hour visa free transit. Basically, this is it.
