About:24-Hour Visa-Free Transit

24 hour visa free transit

I will be traveling on a cruise ship from Hong Kong. My last port of call will be Shanghai. I would like to confirm that a 24-hour visa-free transit to China will allow me to disembark from the port, explore Shanghai, and take my flight from the airport.

Yes, you can use 24 hour visa free transit, but you should be aware of the following conditions:

- Your cruise is not allowed to have any port of call in mainland China immediately before Shanghai. For example, you cannot have a journey like: Hong Kong - Xiamen - Shanghai, but you can have a journey like: Hong Kong - Xiamen - Taiwan - Shanghai. In other words, the port call immediately before Shanghai has to be somewhere else than mainland China.

- Your flight out from Shanghai is not allowed to have any additional landing within mainland China. Theoretically it can, but it is complicated because the additional landing would eat up many of your time dedicated to Shanghai.

- Your stay in Shanghai is limited calculated from your scheduled arrival by cruise until your schedule departure by plane. In other words, you are not allowed to cross 24 hours even for a minute.

If you do as if I have explained, you will be allowed to do exactly as you have planned and presented.
