We are doing a round the world trip and planning on visiting China 6 months into the trip.  How do we do this?

Yes, the valid date is generally 3 months. You may also apply for it in other countries or regions but the rejection rate is pretty high. Hong Kong may have a higher chance for it but it is not guaranteed. The best way is return to UK for the visa application.
