About:Chinese Paper-cut Museum

1Irish &1UK citizen traveling from London-Bangkok stop-over in Beijing for 6 hours

Seems that we may need a Transit Visa just to simply wait for our connecting flight, as it states that
"an APPLICATION for a preliminary ENTRY PERMIT at the Chinese BORDER ...IS a requirement"
Am I correct?
If so and if it needs to be completed PRIOR to landing, where do you get the application form from?
OR
Do you need to apply formally, pay a fee and wait for some formal verification - prior to departure?
- Seems kind of crazy, especially if you are able to remain in the airport transit lounge, without actually going through customs and into the general airport/public area...
I have tried the embassy in London - when I eventually got through I was told they "don't think so" and told to ask the airline (?)
Rang the airline and was told to as the embassy or Heathrow...
Due to depart in less than 1 week - so rather stressed about the lack of clear info.
- Can a kind soul, with similar experience of this, please advise me on what the specific requirements are?
Thank you so much for your time.

According to your itinerary, only stopover in Beijing for 6 hours, you are eligible for the 24-hour visa-free transit and no visa is needed. You don't need to fill any application form or some other things.
