About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit FAQ

Hello,

I have a BA flight from LHR to PVG in mid Feb 2024. Hoping to spend around 48 hours in Shanghai (2 nights in a hotel) before flying out of PVG to HKG on a separate CX booking. UK passport holder.

Would TWOV rules apply to the above itinerary?

Under the assumption that you have mentioned all your stops within the itinerary, you are definitely eligible for 144 hour visa free transit in wider Shanghai area and you do not need any kind of visa. It is fine to have separate tickets and to fly on unrelated airlines as far as your itinerary is eligible and your definitely is.
