Anna, you cannot use 24 hour visa free transit to exit to Hong Kong when you have arrived by plane to Guangdong province. To be precise, you will have to stay at least a minute more than 24 hours in Shenzhen to become eligible for 144 hour visa free transit and then you can exit from Shenzhen, but by ferry. You cannot exit by train because train is not eligible for visa free transit scheme. I would advise you just to carefully count the time from your arrival to Shenzhen and then to take a ferry, provided by CKS - Chu Kong Passenger Service from Shekou port in Shenzhen to Hong Kong. You should just count 24 hours + 1 minute and take a ferry that will be later than those 24 hours. One important detail... You will have to buy your ferry ticket online even before you depart for Shenzhen, print out that ticket and have it with you as a proof that you will be eligible for 144 hour visa free transit. Also, you will really have to take exactly that ferry you have bough your ticket for.
As far as your second segment is concerned, you can return from Hong Kong to Shenzhen, but again, not under any visa free transit scheme, but you will apply for a 5 days Shenzhen visa on arrival upon your arrival at the border crossing in Shenzhen. The most convenient way is to take the first morning ferry from Hong Kong to Shekou port in Shenzhen and then to apply for a visa on arrival. The price is fair, just 168 CNY, but you should take care of the opening hours of Shekou visa office: 9:00 - 13:00 & 14:30 - 16:30.
