About:240-Hour Visa-Free Transit in Guangdong

80-hours Visit to Guangzhou

Hi,
we are visiting the canton fair in Guangzhou, travelling on the 24th of October (arriving in GZ on the afternoon of the 25th) and departing on the 28th of October in the late evening. We do have flights and hotel booked and coming from a EU schengen zone country (Croatia). The total stay in Guangzhou would be 80 hours. Are we eligible for the 144-hours visa free visit? Since we are not transiting to a third country? If yes, do we fill out any documents prior to arrival or directly at the CAN airport?

If you plant to depart from Croatia to Guangzhou, stay in Guangzhou for 80 hours, and go back to Croatia, then this is not eligible for the 144-hour visa-free transit as it is only a return trip.

You can change your itinerary a little. For example, after visiting Guangzhou, take a flight or ferry to HK, and then go back to Croatia.

Maria, we both know that there is no a nonstop flight from Croatia to Guangzhou. You will use some airline to reach it, but everything you should have in mind is that the immediate points before and after Guangzhou have to be in different country or eligible territory. So, if you use Turkish Airlines, you should use a multi-city journey to look like:

Istanbul - Guangzhou - Hong Kong (by ferry) - Istanbul

As you can see, the immediate points before and after Guangzhou have to be in different geographical entities. Also, you will have to buy your ticket for the ferry in advance, even before the very beginning of your journey through CKS - Chu Kong Passenger Service website and you can depart from Guangzhou to Hong Kong from two Guangzhou ports: Pazhou or Nansha or even Shekou port in Shenzhen. You will have to print out your ticket and have it with you to present it to relevant authorities. Also, you will really have to take exactly that ferry you have bought your ticket for.
