About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Multi city flight with stop in Beijing

Hi,
I am a Brazilian passport holder living in London, planing to go to the Philippines next month and I was thinking to buy a multi city ticket with stop in Beijing, this would be London - Beijing for less than 72hrs - Manila and return ticket is Manila - Beijing connexion of 1.5 hour only - London.

Would I be eligible to the 72 hours visa free transit?

Thanks,

Yes, your whole itinerary is eligible for visa free transit.

Your first segment:

London - Beijing - Manila

Is eligible for 144 hour visa free transit because you plan to stay for longer than 24 hours. 72 hours were replaces in Beijing by more generous 144 hours years ago.

Your second segment:

Manila - Beijing - London

Will be covered by 24 hour visa free transit.

So, you are good to buy your flight tickets and you do not need any kind of visa.

Hi Boru,
Thank you very much for your answer. Can you please just confirm how I get the visa-free entry in Beijing? I went to the Chinese consulate here in London and they said this is done with the airline. I contacted Air China and they said they can’t help with it and I should have a visa before boarding or they might not let me board. Try to call immigration authorities in China without success. I’m very confused on how to get the visa-free.

Appreciate any info on this.
Thank you again.

Ana, you as Brazilian citizens are eligible for both 24 and 144 hour visa free transit and if your itinerary is exactly as you have written:

London - Beijing - Manila
Manila - Beijing - London

You really do not need any kind of visa and you do not have to obtain anything in advance. You will just declare at check-in in London that you will travel to the Philippines via Beijing using 144 visa free transit. After a short check of your flight tickets, you will be allowed to board the plane.

Upon landing in Beijing, your first thing to do is to approach 144 hour visa free transit counter where you will apply for a temporary entry permit to be allowed to exit the airport. This application is for free and here you will present your flight ticket to the Philippines and I suggest you to present an accommodation booking confirmation for your, at least, first overnight in Beijing. After a short check, you will be allowed to exit the airport and to enjoy your time in Beijing.

On your return flight from the Philippines to London, you will just declare that you will travel to London via Beijing using 24 hour visa free transit. Nothing more than that and also you will not have to do any formality in Beijing because you will remain airside and you will not exit the airport.

This is done successfully by literally tens of thousands and there is no reason why you should be afraid. The only detail is that you just confirm that your itinerary is exactly as you have presented it here, i.e. that it does not have any additional landing within mainland China. Please, just be relaxed, you are go to go.

Boru, thank you very much for your answer. That clears all my doubts that could not be answered by the airline or the Chinese consulate. Thank you!
