visa or no visa?

hello :)
for reference i'm of french nationality/live in france — i'm going to be travelling from taiwan to shanghai, then i have my flight for tokyo 3 days after. i will be staying in a hotel in shanghai (so not at the airport).
do i need a visa or does it work with the 72/144h visa free transit ? if the latter, do i need an extra temporary stay permit ?
