24 hours_transit visa

Dear Sir/Madam,
We are flying from Kathmandu (Nepal) to London on 23/08/2023. I have a transit at Chengdu Tianfu International Airport (China) for 22.5 hours.
My son and I are British. However, my wife is Nepali. We would be extremely grateful if you could answer the following questions ASAP.
1. Do we need 24-hour transit visas as we would like to go out of the airport and explore the city?
2. Do we need covid pass/ PCR Test certificates?
Thank you.
kind regards
Mithlesh Thakur

1. You are eligible for the 24-hour visa-free transit and you will get a temporary permit to get out of the airport.

2. PCR test is not needed any more. However, the DIY antigen test within 48 hours is necessary.

Hi Diana,
Thank you for the prompt reply. Please confirm the below.
1. My wife holds a Nepalese passport, is she also eligible for 24 hours transit visa? Do we get the temporary permit at Chengdu Tianfu airport?
2. My wife and I have been fully vaccinated in the UK and we both have vaccination certificates. Do we still need to get a DIY antigen test done? What about my son, he is 5 years old, does he also need to get a DIY antigen test done?
I really appreciate your prompt reply. Thank you.

1. Yes, your wife is also eligible. You get the temporary stay permit at the airport upon landing. There is a special 24/144-hour visa-free counter deailing it.
2. Yes, all of you need a DIY antigen test, including your son. You can take a photo of the test result. Actually, the staff may not check it nowadays. But you are still recommended to have it just in case.
