About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit FAQ

72-hour visa-free transit

We got a flight on July 16th Vladivostok (Russia) to Harbin. And then the next day our flight is Harbin -> Auckland, New Zealand with a connection in Shanghai. Are we still able to use the 72hr visa free transit for it because we arrive and depart from the same port? There are no direct flights from Harbin so the airline gave us a connection in Shanghai but it is all part of one ticket... Could you please help?

Many thanks,
Kate

In the case when you have two Chinese cities in a row, you can use only 24 hour visa free transit.

In order to know if you are eligible for 24 hour visa free transit, you will calculate your entire time in China starting from the time of your scheduled arrival in Harbin until the time of your scheduled departure from Shanghai.

If your entire transit time calculated in the above mentioned way is shorter than 24 hours, you do not need any kind of visa and you will be covered by 24 hour visa free transit. Quite the contrary if your entire transit time is longer than 24 hours by just 1 minute, you will have to obtain a Chinese transit visa in advance.
