About:24-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Hi there,
I fly from HK to Shanghai and land around 12pm. I then have a separate flight/itinerary with a different airline from Shanghai 5pm > GZ 7pm (direct connecting flight), transit for 2 hours then > Australia. I just want to ask if I still qualify for the 24hour visa-free transit even if the tickets aren't direct connections/2 different itineraries but I'm still leaving China regardless. I hope that makes sense.
