About:240-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Travel to Guangzhou

Can I travel from Macau to Guangzhou and then back to Hong Kong? Also, my understanding is that Guangzhou has road ports of entry? If not, are there train and ferry port of entries?

No, you cannot do that. The only way how you can use or better to say, become eligible for 144 hour visa free transit is to fly into Guangdong province. This is very large province where many cities are located and Shenzhen and Guangzhou are among them. So, you can, for example, fly from Hong Kong to Guangzhou (there are no flights from Macau to Guangzhou) and then you can exit by ferry from Shenzhen to Macau. Itinerary of this kind is eligible for 144 hour visa free transit. Please, you should just forget about the road options in any direction. If you are interested in more detail, you will let me know.

The rules of visa free transit in Guangdong province simply state that the only eligible entry ports are three airports within the province namely: Guangzhou, Shenzhen and Jieyang Chaoshan.

However, you can exit by ferry... The ferry port you can use to exit Shenzhen is called Shekou port. There is a line from Shekou port to Macau provided by TurboJet ferry.

Another detail important to this scheme is that you have to buy your ferry ticket through TurboJet website before you depart toward mainland China. Also, you should print it out and have it with you. In the end, you have to leave mainland China by exactly that ferry you have bought the ticket for.
