About:24-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Malaysia Passport - Visit to Shenzhen

Hi, I'd like to visit Shenzhen during my 5 day trip to HK. Before the Covid period, I understood Malaysia passport holders were eligible for visa-free transit for 24 hours. Is this still applicable?

Some Malaysian passport holders have been rejected so you may need to apply for a tourist visa in advance.

It was never possible to use 24 hour visa free transit if traveling from Hong Kong to Shenzhen. The only way how to use 24 hour visa free transit was to take a flight from Hong Kong to Guangzhou.
You have probably confsued this visa free option with 5 days Shenzhen visa on arrival that can be issued at the border crossing between Hong Kong and Shenzhen. In other words, this was and is the most convenient option how most of Shenzhen visitors do their visit from Hong Kong.

Anyway, you are informed that because of the pressure for Shenzhen VOAs Chinese authorities have limited the number of eligible citizenship for this option, so it is quite questionable if Malaysian citizens are currently eligible for 5 days Shenzhen VOA or not. I would recommend you not to try to obtain Shenzhen VOA at the time being, until the situation clears enough. Until then, you are advised to postpone your trip or to obtain a Chinese visa in advance.
