Jason, you cannot do that in such an order. It is true that you can apply for 5 day Shenzhen visa on arrival by taking Luhou border crossing, but this visa limits you to just the area that is limited to Shenzhen administrative borders. So, you cannot travel to Guangzhou based on this visa.

Also, if you enter Guangdong province from Hong Kong, you cannot return back to Hong Kong and enjoy 144 hours visa free transit since this is a return trip and not a transit. You miss C country.

So, I suggest you the following to be eligible for 144 hours visa free transit:

- Buy a plane ticket from Hong Kong to Guangzhou (to be eligible for a transit in Guangdong province, you simply have to fly into it)
- Buy a ferry (catamaran) ticket from Shekou port in Shenzhen to Macau at TurboJet website. Please, have in mind that after booking of this ticket, you should print it and have it with you because you will have to present it in Hong Kong and in Guangzhou.
- Like this you have satisfied the requirements because you have:
A - B - C
Hong Kong - Guangzhou (mainland China) - Macau
This is a real transit and it will allow you to stay in the entire Guangdong province for 144 hours visa free. So, there is no any kind of visa, but totally visa free.
- Please, have in mind that you will have to take exactly that ferry (catamaran) from Shekou port in Shenzhen that you bought your ticket for.
- After you reach Macau, you can proceed to Hong Kong by bus, ferry or whatever way you want to catch the flight to Thailand.

I consider this option the best for your needs, although it will require some precise planning and some additional efforts.

Thanks for your reply, so does it means that when I arrive in HK, I must have a ferry ticket from shekou port to Macau, then from Macau I can go over to Zhuhai to get the transit visa if I take your suggestion via ferry?

Yes, you definitely need a ticket for a ferry (catamaran) from Shekou to Macau because you need a proof that you will be in a real transit between Hong Kong to Macau via Guangdong province:

Hong Kong - Guangdong province (mainland China) - Macau

This satisfies the criteria for your 144 hours visa free transit:

Country A - Mainland China (Country B) - Country C

According to the rules, Chinese regions of Hong Kong, Taiwan and Macau act as a third countries in this regard because of separate immigration policies.

After you reach Macau by ferry from Shekou, you can go wherever you want. You can take a direct ferry or a bus to reach Hong Kong and you do not have to return to mainland China. There is no reason why should you do that.

If you need to visit Zhuhai, you can travel there by train from Guangzhou and after that you will take a ferry (catamaran), that you do not have to book in advance because this is a domestic ride, to Shekou in Shenzhen and from there by ferry (catamaran) that you have bought in advance to Macau. Please, be aware that in theory you could cross from Zhuhai to Macau even on foot, but you cannot secure an advance ticket that it will present that you will really do that. So, this is the reason why you have to book your ticket for Shekou to Macau ferry (catamaran).

By the way, if you want to cross to Zhuhai from Macau, you can do that by applying for 3 day Zhuhai visa on arrival at the border crossing. This is also fine.
