About:144-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Singapore-Guangzhou-Hong Kong-Macau-Singapore

I'm planning to travel to Guangzhou, using this facility later in May, from Singapore. My next stop after Guangzhou is Hong Kong, followed by Macau. Can I take the high-speed rail from Guangzhou to HK's West Kowloon Station to depart from mainland China? If not, can I travel by train to Shenzhen's Luohu Port and cross into HK. But I'll buy the train ticket only after I land in Guangzhou, so how do I prove when I enter at Guangzhou's airport that I'll be proceeding to HK after Guangzhou?

Yes, your travel plan, if you do not have any additional landing within Mainland China is perfectly fine for 144 hours visa free transit. You can exit from Guangdong province to Hong Kong via several designated border road and railway border crossings, but you need a ticket for your exit in order to guarantee that you will really head to a third country/region. I suggest you use of Guangzhou East (usually called Tianhe Railway station/port) from where you can take a high speed, direct train to West Kowloon in Hong Kong. Please, have in mind that Guangzhou South station is not eligible for this purpose.

Thank you! The train between Guangzhou East to Hong Kong's Hung Hom station is no longer functioning, unfortunately. It was such a historic train route. And yes, I was just told by my relative in Guangzhou that I cannot exit via the Guangzhou South station, as that train brings one to West Kowloon station in HK, and all passport control is actually within HK territory so doesn't apply for the 144-hour visa-free transit travel. I'd instead take the train from Guangzhou South to Zhuhai, and then exit Guangdong province from Gongbei Port at Zhuhai. I was told that as long as I can prove I've accommodation arranged in Macau after that 144-hour period, I should be able to enter at Guangzhou airport. Let's see... - Sally
