About:Chinese Paper-cut Museum

1 day trip by train from HK to Shenzhen- French passport

Hello , I will be in Hong Kong in May and would like to go to Shenzhen , 1 day return by train, trip to HK then on my way to the US , New York where I live. Should I apply for a chinese visa - at the consulate they ask you for your booked trip - but will buy my train ticket in Hong Kong prior to departure .

You mean Hong Kong - Shenzhen - Hong Kong? It's not eligible for the visa-free transit and a regular visa is needed.
The booked ticket is not a must; but they do ask for it sometimes.
