Student visa change to Working Visa

What happens if a foreigner works in China with a student Visa?
Is it possible for him to change the student Visa to a working visa? What if he is unable to change it into a working visa before the expiration of his visa?

After being caught, he or she will be fined and possibily be deported.

Yes, it's possible to renew the student visa to a work type at local Entry and Exit Administrative Office in China. If failed, he or she may get another type and act accordingly.
