Yes, you need to do a health check before renewing your residence permit.

I extended my Q2 visa last month, when I first went there the lady at the front desk told me (and everyone else in line!) I needed a health check and handed me a pamphlet with information outlining the steps etc. I have been married for 6 years to a Chinese citizen and never had this before so because another person on this forum advised people not to trust the front desk people, I decided not to get the health check (waste of a day, poking and prodding and 950 rmb down the toilet), instead the next day I went back to the same office and spoke with a real immigration officer (not a receptionist!) who told me that because I am already married and with the type of visa extension I am applying for, I do NOT need this health check!!! Dont trust secondhand information, go there and talk to a real officer!

I just got married and have my first visa. I was told that with a health check I would get an extra year on my residents permit - and did!

*and you paid how much for the health check + extra time period?

I guess now that they've cancelled everyone's previous visas, they've altogether completely stopped issuing the 10 year visa?

I am married and had the Q2 extended in July, which is now only valid until November, no health check required, and it cost me the same as my 10 year visa which still had 7 years of validity when they cancelled it! So instead of $140 for ten years, I will be paying $140 every 3 months for the same visa. The current visa situation is ridiculous.

400 rmb for one year visa, 800rmb for 2-year visa, plus health check cost maybe 350rmb.

I was happier with the security of NOT worrying for an extra year, plus I don't want to go to the PSB every year!

Wow. What province is that? In SZ I just paid total 1,900 CNY for 120 day Q2 visa and health check. That doesn't include the travel costs to get to and from, about another 350 CNY. As it turns out I also did not need to do a health check. These days the visa policies seem to be all over the place.
