Why is my zodiac January 5, 1981 became a monkey and not a rooster?

I am not a monkey.

Because the zodiac sign is based on the Chinese lunar calendar. And your birth date is Nov.30th, 1980. Thus your sign is Monkey.

The Chinese year starts at the end of January or early February. People born in January or early February have to look up when the Chinese New Year started. If you look at the chart above, you will see the start and end dates of the Chinese year for each year.
