I want to travel down to china for academic purpose , is it possible for me to go without being given admission hopefully if i arrive i will pursue admission

No, if you do not get the admission, you can't apply for a student visa, so you may need to get a tourist visa, but now Nigerian citizens cannot get a Chinese tourist visa if not travelling in a group organized by travel agencies.
