About:Chinese Temporary Residence Permit

Changing students resident permit to family resident permit

Hi, right now I have a residence permit issued by the university I’m studying at. My husband is Chinese and I will like to know if I can change the student residence permit for a family one without living China, at the end of this semester I will finish my studies and giving the situation of the coronavirus I can’t go back to my home country. Is it possible to change the residence permit type without leaving China?

Generally yes, and it's relatively straightforward in large cities. Keep in mind however that a family-based residence permit does not permit gainful employment.
