About:China Family Reunion Visa

Can I apply for a Q1 visa inside China?

I am currently working in China and have a temporary residence permit (employment purposes). I will finish my job contract this summer, but I plan to stay in China (not working). My wife is Chinese. Can I apply for a Q1 visa here in China, before my current residence permit expires? Or do I need to leave mainland China and apply for Q1 in another place, e.g. Hong Kong? Many thanks.

You can first try to transfer your work visa to a Q1 visa at the exit and entry administration in mainland. Only if you can't do so, you can go to HK to apply for the Q1.

In Mainland China you will get the family-based residence permit directly and not the Q1 visa, which merely enables one to apply for the residence permit.
