Do I need a visa to transit through China?

I am an Australian citizen who has booked tickets to fly from from Phnom Penh to Melbourne via Guangzhou next week. However, I have been told by other travellers that a visa is needed to transit through China during the novel coronavirus outbreak. Is this true? If so, is it possible to obtain a visa before my flight leaves?
Thanks!

I heard that if your layover in Guangzhou is not more than 12 hours and you don't leave the airport, you may not need a visa, but you still need to make sure about this with the airline.
