60-day extension of 10-year tourist visa at PSB in China

American citizen granted 60-day stay in China under a valid 10-year tourist visa desires to remain in mainland China for an additional 60-days during the COVID-19 situation. If PSB successfully grants a 60-day extension, will the original 10-year tourist visa remain valid?

There are no recent reports in the last two or so years (most people did visa runs to HK and Macau before the epidemic) but IIRC someone mentioned that one of the EEAs warned them that their 10-year visa might be canceled if they try to get an extension. They did a visa run to HK instead.

your 10 yr visa will be cancelled and unless you have business or family ties here, you wont be given another extension for tourist visa

regarding a "visa run" to hk.. you will be subject to a 14 day quarantine there and then another 14 day quarantine in shenzhen upon return. a month of lockdown and a massive hotel bill, not exactly a good alternative solution to this visa mess.
