Visa extension from outside China?

I was forced to travel out of China to the UK due to the COVID-19 situation in early February. I am on an M-type visa expiring on March 3. I have just been informed that my company will not renew my contract due to COVID-19 and so I will not be able to receive another visa. I still have some things to sort out in China, but cannot return until March 16, by which time my visa will have expired. Is it possible to apply for a humanitarian visa from the UK to allow me a short window of time to pack up my life in China? Or does anyone have any advice on a short term visa I can apply for that will allow me a quick re-entry into China to pack things up after my M type has expired?

Caitlin, you can apply for a short term tourist visa in from the visa application service centers in UK after all things clear up.
