About:Chinese Consulate in Chicago

over charged?

I and my wife applied for a china visas and were told the cost would be 140$ plus a few serves charges.. I was charged 399$ a piece! are there consular fees on top of the 140$ because we don't know what to do.

If you don't use an agent and you apply directly through the Chinese consulate, the cost is 140$ for each of you. No service charge should be paid.
