About:Wuxi Ancient Kilns Relics Museum

Can my family return to China before expiration of visa

My family (my wife and my son) are planning to leave for Pakistan for a month (in March). Their visa is going to expire on 20th May 2020. Can they come without difficulty before the end of April 2020 (about three weeks of visa expiration date)? Or should I apply for their visa extension before they leave?
Also, there is nothing mentioned about single or multiple entries on the visa that has been extended in Beijing after their arrival.

They won't have a problem entering China, but if what they have are residence permits and not visas, then renewal should be done immediately after entering China.

Thanks Johan for your kind and prompt response. Yes, their resident permit will also expire on 20th May 2020 (the date of their visa expirey). After there arrival, soon we will go to Beijing Entry and Exit office for visa renewal as they will stay with me for next year too.
