About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

USA to Shanghai to Macao returning to Atlanta in 5 days via Shanghai

Hello - I am traveling to Macao from Atlanta USA via Shanghai, I intend to stay in Shanghai for 36 hours then fly to Macao. I will be returning to Atlanta in 5 days via Shanghai.
Will this qualify for a Chinese transit visa in both directions?
Thank you

Yes. However the correct term is "visa-free transit" and it is better to use that term, or Delta's ground agent would be confused.

Thank you for your reply. Would the combination of days in Shanghai and Macau (approximately 8 days) put me over the allotted visa free transit condition?

Macau is a third country for customs purposes and the 6-day period resets once you have left Shanghai to a third country.
