Am I to mail my ORIGINAL PASSORT?

We live in Oregon and are traveling to Hong Kong in May, 2020, to join a Norwegian Cruise Lines passenger cruise with 4 stops in China: Hong Kong, Shanghai, Beijing (Tianjin) and Dalian before continuing on to Japan. We will arrive in Hong Kong as tourists 2 days before embarkation.

As I read the L Visa instructions, we are to send our original US Passports to the Chinese consulate office in San Francisco. Is this correct? We are reluctant to send our actual passports in the mail for security reasons. Is there another way?

Yes, you need to submit your visa application to the Chinese consulate in SFO. However, mailed applications are not accepted, so you need to go there in person.

That’s not gonna happen. I guess I’ll have to hire a Visa service, but thanks for your reply.
