chinese visa prices for uk citizens

Why do China charge exorbitant visa prices for UK citizens, Irish citizens get charged 40 Euro whilst British citizens get charged £150 which I find incredible, could you please tell me why this is

That's understandable, appreciate quick reply, really would have liked to visit on holiday but will have to choose elsewhere due to high visa fees
