Invitation Letter

I am a residence of US. I want to visit my brother Who lives in Tainjin- China. He has a compony and he is a long term residence in China. My question is i need an invitation letter?

If you will stay in a hotel, you don't have to get an invitation letter. If you will stay together with your brother in his apartment, you need to get an invitation letter and a copy of his passport and temporary residence permit.
