Passport expiration

Does my passport need to be valid for 6 more months at the moment of work visa extension application? If yes, and my passport is to expire in less than 6 months, what can I do? I've been in China for almost a year.

If you renew your visa in China, your passport doesn't have to be valid for more than 6 months.
