Hi i'm an U.S citizen and i would like to visit Shanghai in 2 weeks for 5 days.

I would like to visit Shanghai for 5 days and I would like to know if i should apply for a tourism visa or just take advantage of the 144 hours visa free.

My first route option is Washington, DC to Shanghai then Shanghai to Washington, DC.

Second option is Washington, DC to Toronto then Toronto to Shanghai and return is Shanghai to Montreal then Montreal to DC.

Sorry, both routes are not eligible. You can't return to the same country from Shanghai after the trip. If the route is Washington DC to Toronto then to Shanghai and return to Washington DC, you will be eligible.
