As a oversea Chinese (Malaysia), 56 in age, I would like to retire in China with my spouse (56). What type of PR application should I apply for?

Having Chinese ancestry or not is irrelevant. You can't get PR if you have never lived in China. You don't qualify for a family-based residence permit either if your spouse (or parents if they are still with us) is not a Chinese national. The only thing you may qualify (if having a relative who is a Chinese national) is a Q2 visa which entitles you to stay in China for up to 180 days per entry.
