About:144-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Are we able to apply for 144 hour free visa

Fly from Australia to Shanghai staying 2 nights then boarding cruise to Japan and Russia for 8 nights. Ship returns to Shanghai and we are saying another 2 nights then flying back to Australia.
Are we entitled to apply for 144 hour free visa or do we need a tourist visa?

Be careful - the final decision is immigration officer. He may decline without giving a reason (or telling you it is confidential). You will be given 24h to leave China from the very same terminal (you need visa to get to other terminal). This happened to me and multiple other passengers from Europe and Canada.

As long each entry and exit pair are different countries you can do 144 hour transit without visa each tome

Bart, stops under 24 hours its up to immigration discretion if you can get temporary entry permit to leave the international transit area. This is not an issue when its over 24 hour transit. Advance hotel reservation under 24 hour is usually approved as well. Or are you saying you were scheduled for multiple day stop and had to buy a new ticket to leave within 24 hours?
