About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Does the flight to China have to be direct?

I want to use the 144 hour visa in Beijing So could I fly London Beijing (on a flight that connects in Doha) then use the visa before flying back to Doha for a few days and then London?

It does not have to be a direct flight. But Doha-Beijing-Doha is not a transit to a third country and therefore requires a visa. There is no such thing as "144 hour visa", only "144 hour visa-free transit".
